Mahmoud¡¯s current research focuses on technology and change in accounting and control. In addition, he is working on research projects with his Ph.D. students in the area of corporate governance and carbon accounting.

He has been working recently on projects on the governance and management of public organisations, and the evolving roles of management control systems and management accountants.

Mahmoud¡¯s research is published in top and highly prestigious accounting journals including ABACUS, Management Accounting Research and The British Accounting Review. His research was recognised and supported by CIMA - Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

He is an academic reviewer for Journal of Accounting in Emerging Economies, International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation, International Journal of Management Accounting Research and The Asian Pacific Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting Conference

Research seminars and is Program Facilitator for the Centre of Excellence in Accounting.
