Project overview
The Eastern Mediterranean Experimental Seafaring (EMES) is funded by the Honor Frost Foundation through the position of Dr Crystal el Safadi at the university. This project focuses on experimental sailing, digital testing and capturing performance, the visualisation of replicas and reconstructions of ancient ships, and the value of these to contemporary society. One of the main elements to this research is a collaboration with the Kyrenia Chrysocava Cultural Foundation and a focus on the reconstructions of the iconic Kyrenia shipwreck.
