About the Nutrients and Carbonate Chemistry Facility

This facility is located within the School of Ocean and Earth Science at the Waterfront Campus (National Oceanography Centre, 天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载).

We provide the following analysis for both internal (staff, student projects, and fieldcourses) and external customers:

Dissolved inorganic nutrients (Total Nitrate, Nitrite, Phosphate, and Silicate). Ammonium measurements are also available on request instead of Silicate measurements using the salicylate colorimetric method
Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) and Total Dissolved Nitrogen (TDN)
Total Alkalinity and Dissolved Inorganic Carbon (small volume samples analysis available)

The facility is equipped with the following instruments:

TOC-VCPN for Dissolved Organic Carbon and Total Dissolved Nitrogen analysis (Shimadzu)
QuAAtro 39 nutrient auto-analyser (Seal Analytical) for micromolar dissolved nutrient analysis
AS-ALK2 Alkalinity titrator and AS-C3 DIC analyser (Apollo SciTech) for small volume samples
VINDTA 3C for Alkalinity and DIC analysis (larger volumes, e.g. research cruise samples)

Professor

Research interests

Dr. Lam's research interest lies in the functional roles of microorganisms in biogeochemical cycling, particularly the nitrogen and carbon cycles, in diverse marine and aquatic systems. In collaboration with researchers inside and outside the university, her work integrates state-of-the-art molecular ecological techniques, stable isotopic analyses, process rate measurements, hypothesis-driven experimentation and modelling, to disentangle complex microbial interactions and their impacts on biogeochemical environments especially in the context of global change.
