The Education and Student Experience Committee is a Committee of Senate and has delegated responsibility from Senate to oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of the University strategy as it applies to education and student experience. ?The Faculty Education and Student Experience Subcommittee (FEC) was implemented to support the Education and Student Experience Committee in carrying out its delegated responsibilities.
Purpose
- To make recommendations to Senate for the award of taught and doctoral degrees, diplomas and certificates.
- To oversee, at Faculty level, the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the University strategy and Faculty priorities as they apply to education and student experience.
- The Chair is responsible for ensuring that any equality impacts against each project/policy/process/procedure have been considered as part of the decision-making process.
Responsibilities and activity
- To make recommendations to the Vice-Chancellor as Chair of Senate on the advice of Boards of Examiners for the award of taught and doctoral degrees, diplomas and certificates and to monitor the progression of students on taught and doctoral programmes.?
- To have responsibility for strategic matters concerning education, quality enhancement and the student experience, ensuring alignment of Faculty direction and priorities with the University Education and Student Experience strategic plans. ?To have responsibility for reviewing, reporting and strategic planning to address:
- the Faculty Access and Participation Plans (APP)
- the Faculty Graduate Outcomes plan
- Student continuation and completion
- Degree Outcomes
- Student surveys
- Significant issues pertaining to education and the student experience raised by constituent Schools, escalating to the Education and Student Experience Committee where required.
- To ensure the equivalence of learning opportunities, research and enterprise environments and the student experience across the Faculty.
- To have strategic oversight of the whole education portfolio, including collaborative provision, across the Faculty, providing strategic advice to Faculty Board.
- To disseminate policies relating to education and student experience, as approved by the Education and Student Experience Committee and/or Senate.
- To receive regular reports from Faculty Presidents on significant issues arising from Student Staff Liaison Committees.
- To receive reports from Deputy Heads of School (Education) on education activities within their School, including a verbal summary of key education and student experience issues arising from School annual monitoring reports ??
- To receive reports from the Faculty Director of Graduate School on research student activities.
- To receive reports from Senior Tutors Steering Group on student support matters.
- To receive minutes and reports from additional governance committees or working groups as established by the Chair.?
- To report on matters of education to Faculty Board as appropriate and/or as requested, and to the Education and Student Experience Committee (regular verbal reports and an annual written progress report) on:
- The Faculty Access and Participation Plans (APP)
- Faculty Graduate Outcomes
- Student continuation and completion
- Degree Outcomes
- Student surveys
- Significant student issues arising from Student Staff Liaison Committees.
Reporting arrangements
- The Faculty Education and Student Experience Subcommittee reports to the Education and Student Experience Committee and to Faculty Board.
- It will also submit reports to the Academic Quality and Standards Subcommittee on programme validation.?
- The Faculty Education and Student Experience Subcommittee may set up and disband from time to time such working groups and subcommittees as it decides is required to execute its business.

The Chair may co-opt additional members as necessary (including to act as chairs of advisory/working groups).
Members who are unable to attend may send a substitute with permission of the Chair.
Quorum
The Faculty Education & Student Experience Subcommittee will be quorate with one third of the membership plus one in attendance.
Frequency of meetings
The Faculty Education & Student Experience Subcommittee will meet at least three times per year.

Secretariat support is provided by the Quality Standards & Accreditation team supporting the Faculty.

Governance reporting line
