Simon A.C. Martin is a Postgraduate Researcher based in the Business School at the University of 天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载. Simon’s research centres around the business management of railway engineering, with a specific focus on the development of high-speed railway lines and rolling stock throughout railway history.
Simon’s current research focuses on the development of high-speed rail in Britain. This is topical given the recent changes to the HS2 project. Much of the research at present is focused on archives for the historical development of high-speed rail in Britain, including but not limited to the inter-war period.
Simon has undertaken to give a series of lectures across historical railway societies over the last five years on his specialist subjects that he has had published as history books. Edward Thompson: Wartime C.M.E. was presented to the MRC of London in 2022, the Railway Correspondence & Travel Society in 2023. Sir Nigel Gresley: The L.N.E.R.’s first C.M.E. was given to the MRC of London in 2023 and online to members of the RCTS in late 2023.
Joining the University of 天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载 as a postgraduate researcher, Simon is also currently working for Network Rail as a Project Engineer in Switches and Crossings, providing engineering and technical support for contractors. He has worked in a wide range of railway engineering functions for Network Rail, including but not limited to project management, signalling design and Renewals/Enhancements.
