Her research lies at the intersection of migration studies, rural development, and critical urban-rural relations. With an interdisciplinary background, Tongming’s current doctoral project investigates return rural entrepreneurship in Chinese tourism villages, focusing on how return migrants navigate employment, reshape rural spaces, and reimagine aspirations under China’s rural revitalization policy. Her work contributes to global discussions on mobility, governance, gentrification, and class-making in the Global South. She is also an Associate Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS-IBG) and contributes as a reviewer to journals in sociology, social anthropology, and human geography.
