Research project:?Acoustic Black Holes for Control of Structural Vibration and Sound Radiation

Currently Active:
Yes

Acoustic black holes provide a potential lightweight solution to sound and vibration control. Currently, acoustic black holes have been found to be effective at higher frequencies, due to the need for an effective damping layer, but a lot of the investigations have focused on applications to simple beam and plate structures. This project aims to develop practical acoustic black holes to suit more complex industrial applications, alongside the integration of novel extensions such as active damping technology in an attempt to improve the low frequency performance of acoustic black holes.

Current research:

  • Parameter tradeoffs and optimisation of 2D acoustic black holes on a beam.
