Learning and teaching

The Centre for Higher Education Practice (CHEP) promotes academic professional learning for every member of University staff, in all areas of academic activity and at every stage of their career.? We strive to create a positive academic culture by making the University a vibrant place of learning and teaching in which our educators can demonstrate confidence and ambition.

  • Actively?supports educators to attain HEA professional?to demonstrate commitment to high quality teaching. This can be achieved via?our Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) (taught programme)?or Professional Recognition of Educator Practice (PREP) (portfolio?based).
  • Supports?the National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) and Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) Scheme to celebrate outstanding individual and collaborative achievements in learning and teaching in UK higher education.
  • Plays a leading role in?University-wide enhancement projects?and initiatives including the?Advancing Assessment?and the?Successful Futures Strategic Major Projects?and by supporting the University’s commitment to a variety charters.
  • Promotes?collaborative practice?and the cross-fertilisation of ideas through the facilitation of University-wide networks, Communities of Practice, staff-student partnerships, and by awarding?Enhancement Funds and Teaching Development Grants?to encourage creative and innovative practice.
  • Encourages the dissemination of best practice through a?portfolio of CPD (Education) workshops?delivered by staff from across the institution and by showcasing best practice during the annual?CHEP Festival.
