In the UK, many companies recruit multiple graduates on graduate schemes. These are jobs with an integrated training period (usually 1 – 2 years) where you often rotate around multiple departments until your strengths are revealed and they establish which role you are best suited to. You can identify graduate schemes easily. They:

  • Are recruited up to 13 months before the start date, so jobs can be advertised in August 2024 for a September 2025 start date.?
  • Have a number of application stages, often starting with online tests followed by multiple interviews and an assessment centre.
  • Usually take place with larger organisations who hire multiple candidates at once.

Graduate schemes are very attractive opportunities because they usually offer structured progression within well-known organisations and are well paid. However, they are extremely competitive with some receiving tens of thousands of applications. If you are planning to apply for graduate schemes, you can find out about them and apply for vacancies on specialist graduate job boards. There are many of these, including:

Further information is available in the 'Graduate Job Market' tile on the UoS Career Hub.

The key thing to remember is that you will need to start applying for graduate schemes at the beginning of your final year of study. So, if you are a Masters student, this will mean as soon as you get to University. This can be hard to manage and overwhelming when you are starting a new course in a new country, so it is important to access the careers service for support.?

As soon as you have your university student profile, you can book an appointment with our advisers or sign up for the International Student Careers Programme (or both) on MyCareer. If you are not sure what to do, email careers@southampton.ac.uk for help.

?

Many of you, especially Masters students, will have previous work experience and some of you will have substantial careers behind you. This may mean that the experienced hire market is more suitable for you to target, with more relevant opportunities and higher salaries to match your skills and experience. The International Student Careers Programme is designed to focus on this job market but if you are reading this before you have started University, there are a few things you can do to prepare.

  1. Have a look on some popular UK job boards to see what the job market looks like, which?jobs exists that match your skills and what the salaries are. The 'Jobs' section on Indeed?and LinkedIn?are good places to start.?
  2. When you are job searching, focus on skills and key words rather than job titles as there can be many different titles for the same job role?in the UK.
  3. If you don't have a LinkedIn account, create one. LinkedIn is a valuable networking and careers research tool as well as a jobs board.?
  4. Use LinkedIn for research;?have a look at what people do with similar qualifications to you, see where they have worked and their career path to get there.?

There is plenty of support available to help you with CVs, applications and interviews when you start studying at the University of 天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载, including access to career guidance if you have career decisions to make.
