The Transforming the Academic Year project has been running since Autumn 2023. We are currently in the Phase 3 of the project, where we are:
- Testing the options for change approved for further consideration by Senate, UEB and our student community at the end of Phase 2
- Identifying preferred options and resource implications
- Developing impact assessments
- Producing a draft implementation plan
Since February 2025, we have held workshops with a wide range of staff and student stakeholders to explore these options and their potential impacts. We are now inviting all members of our community to share their views on the options under consideration. We have created a short survey to enable us to ensure everyone has an opportunity to share their thoughts about the options under consideration.
The Options under Consideration page of the Transforming the Academic Year SharePoint site contains resources for staff and students to help understand the options and the their implications, which may be helpful in answering the questions in this survey.
Next steps
In June 2025 the Project Steering Group will provide a summary of the consultation, an analysis of the impacts and benefits of adopting each of these options and make a recommendation about next steps to UEB and Senate in June.
It is important to note that no change is not an option: we will need to adopt one of the changes under consideration to make assessment pressures more manageable for our community. We know there is no solution that will be ideal for everyone, and compromises will need to be made to ensure we move forward in a way that is best for the community as a whole.
