Mrs Jane Barber, who served the University from 1971 to 1982 as a public relations officer, died peacefully in Lyndhurst on 7th October 2013, aged 72. She was appointed in the wake of a student occupation of the administration building and worked hard to secure good relations with the Students’ Union, as well as dealing with outside press relations and organising the first Open Days for the community. She married Keith, then a geography lecturer, in 1974. He retired as Emeritus Professor in 2009 and nursed Jane in her final years when she was in poor health, though she never complained and was always brave and optimistic.
