On Tuesday 23 March 2010 the shortlist was announced for the Green Gown Awards 2010. The awards? run by the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC)? recognise the exceptional initiatives being undertaken by universities and collages across the UK to become more sustainable.

This year NOCS has successfully been shortlisted under the two categories? Carbon Reduction and Greening ICT. The Centre will now pit itself against four other intuitions in each category to try to win the prestigious honour of a Green Gown Award (s).

The winners will be announced on Wednesday 16th June 2010 at the Globe Theatre in London. Dr Neil Smith, University Environment Manager? said:

“This is fantastic news and reflects all the good work at the National Oceanography Centre towards reducing their carbon footprint”.
