The lives of the men whose work shaped modern astronomy are explored in a free public lecture taking place next week.
Dr Stuart Clark, one of the UK’s most widely read astronomy journalists? will give the talk based on his book ‘The Sun Kings: the unexpected tragedy of Richard Carrington and the tale of how modern astronomy began’.
Dr Clark will tell the stories of the men who studied the Sun during the nineteenth century and changed astronomy from star charting to astrophysics.
With his broad knowledge and ability to present astrophysics to the general public, Dr Clark brings the science to life and up-to-date, touching on topics such as global warming.
The lecture is taking place on Wednesday 9 December at 6.30pm in Lecture Theatre B of the School of Physics and Astronomy on the University’s Highfield campus.
Dr Clark will also be signing copies of his books after the talk.
