Can the private sector learn from public sector procurement?

Public sector procurement was previously viewed as lagging behind the private sector and there were little or no consequences for getting it wrong or even worse for abuse. There is now evidence to suggest that the public sector has overtaken the private sector in terms of procuring goods, works and services driven by EU regulation. Can Policy and Regulation actually drive best practice or is public procurement doomed to underperform in a mass of bureaucracy and administration. This session will consider whether the private sector can learn from public sector procurement.

Martin Murphy is Managing Director of SCMG Ltd and has over 15 years experience of supporting both public and private sector organisations internationally in Supply Chain, Procurement and Logistics. In recent years he has worked to support organisations in EU compliant public tendering arrangements including complete outsourcing of the support cycle of the process
