Update on new procedures for staff at levels 1-3

Following the implementation in 2008 of new procedures for academic staff covering discipline? grievance? capability and redundancy? it was agreed that the related procedures for staff in levels 1 to 3 should be reviewed and developed this year to ensure a more consistent approach.

The disciplinary procedure outlines the formal process to deal with concerns about standards of conduct of staff.

The grievance procedure outlines the formal process to deal with a staff complaint.

The capability procedure outlines the formal process to help members of staff meet required standards in relation to their role and responsibilities.

The redundancy procedure outlines the formal process to follow in a redundancy situation.

Consultation on the procedures has taken place with representatives from Schools and Service Departments and the trade unions recognised by the University.

The disciplinary, capability, grievance and redundancy procedures for staff at levels 1-3 will be implemented with effect from 1 December 2009. University employees affected by the change will be given notification by 31 October 2009.
