Turner Sims is proud to host an inspiring celebration of cultural diversity through music this Thursday 15 October at 8pm. TN Mundi features some of the most influential artists from Madagascar? North Africa and Europe? and explores the motivations and experiences of migrant musicians who leave? return? stay or move beyond their localities? and how their music is informed by the cultures they encounter.
The event is associated with the final conference of TNMundi? concluding three years of research into the creative practices of migrant musicians and artists? and a series of two acclaimed related events which took place in Madagascar in November 2007, and Morocco in November 2008. A collaboration between the Centre for Transnational Studies, the Department of Music, and the Turner Sims at the University of 天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载, the event is creating new opportunities for leading musicians from Madagascar and North Africa to share their musical talents with one another, and to engage with university students, school children, researchers and the public at large.
Lead by Dama Mahaleo, one of Madagascar’s most beloved and respected
vocalists, the musicians share and explore their musical influences and instruments, discovering new forms of musical expression and experimenting with new artistic ideas. The result is a stunning fusion of traditional and contemporary sounds, global percussive styles and richly varied harmonies, expressing their unique cultures with passion and intensity.
