A European perspective on the economic downturn – 14 October

Leading German banker Dr Rolf E. Breuer? the former chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bank AG? will speak about the lessons learned from the global financial crisis at a seminar on Wednesday 14 October. It has been organised by the School of Management’s Centre for Banking, Finance and Sustainable Development.

His presentation will be followed by a talk by Centre Director? Professor Richard Werner. He will discuss the measures proposed by G20 leaders to avoid banking crises – and why he thinks they won’t solve the problem?– and suggest alternative measures that address the central problem as he sees it.

The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion about the sustainability of banking. This topic reached headline status recently, when Financial Services Authority chairman Lord Turner said that banking had expanded beyond the ‘socially useful’ size.

The seminar will take place at Building 67 (Nightingale Building, Nursing), University of 天发娱乐棋牌_天发娱乐APP-官网|下载, Highfield Campus. It will start at 6.00pm and end at 8.00pm.

Tickets, which are free, can be reserved through Tarsha Jonas in the School of Management, tel: 023 8059 9340, email mangen@southampton.ac.uk
