Enjoy a unique musical experience on Monday 27 July when brilliant jazz collective Tomorrow’s Warriors play a concert as part of the first ever jazz programme in a British IKEA store.
The free concert takes place from 5 to 7pm in the IKEA restaurant.
The performance, which is the second of two, is in association with the Turner Sims Concert Hall, as part of Arts Council England’s Rendezvous project. The project aims to take the arts to new audiences in surprising places, and to mark the start of an exciting partnership between the two influential businesses.
Tomorrow’s Warriors are the streetwise, award-winning faces of jazz. Respecting the traditions of jazz, but mixing them up with sounds and rhythms from bebop to hip hop. The collective is lead by Gary Crosby, who was recently awarded an OBE for his services to jazz.
Kevin Appleby, Concert Hall Manager of the Turner Sims, says: “We are delighted to establish this groundbreaking partnership with a creative company such as IKEA, which understands the value of working with the arts. We thank Arts Council England for enabling this exciting piece of audience development.”
Rob Cooper, Marketing Manager of IKEA, adds: “IKEA has presented jazz in-store in the USA, but never in Britain. I am very pleased to be able to introduce something new for our customers; being in partnership with a renowned local venue like Turner Sims makes it especially valuable.”
Jazz at IKEA is the first step on the road to establishing a jazz centre of excellence at the Turner Sims Concert Hall. Aiming to get local people interested in the many forms of jazz – in performance, online and in education – there will be many ways to enjoy this broad genre over the next few months and beyond.
